Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew / The Wander Project / Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
Engaged by Kew Gardens to deliver their main summer exhibition event; a journey of five trails around the 300 acre world heritage site, home to over 2 million visitors each year.
Standard8 designed and developed HATO’s concept designs, fabricating a series of giant artwork sculptures along with a full wayfinding graphics and signage package, and installing them across Kew Gardens. The centre piece was a bespoke pavilion structure covering 100 sq metres x 6 metres tall, located on the main entrance lawn at Victoria Gate. ‘The Hub’ as it was named, formed the start of the visitor journey and was fabricated from bespoke steel and aluminium framework structures. Semi-fabricated offsite, housing graphics and interactive elements. A particular challenge was the installation of graphic artwork to the main elevation of the ‘Treetop Walkway’ lift shaft, a glass tower 23 metres high within the deep woods.
Designing, developing and fabricating the structures using our own structural engineers ensured public safety and durability. Special consideration was given to those visitors with accessibility issues and the high proportion of school age visitors.
