Artworks illuminating the streets of Stoke-on-Trent & Newcastle-under-Lyme

Appetite is an arts organisation on a mission to bring people into Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme by offering them world-class arts experiences.

Their ‘Seasonal Specials’ programme of city-wide events includes The Three Counties Cubes. A public art exhibition curated by Keele University's ArtsKeele displaying works submitted by the people of Staffordshire, Cheshire and Shropshire.

This touring exhibition is formed of four huge illuminated exhibition cubes, accessible for all to see 24 hours a day. The 5 monthly tour brings the cubes to Stoke-on-Trent city centre, the pedestrian area of Iron Market, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Union Square at Keele University.

The organisers were committed to making the exhibition happen despite the pandemic. The project took place virtually with 145 works appearing in the online exhibition in August. The winning artworks were selected by public vote and displayed within the cubes.

‘….COVID-19 has given us some challenges this year in doing that but we are delighted to now bring our first Seasonal Special to the City. We look forward to people enjoying these installations both in-person and remotely as content will be placed on our website…’

Appetite Director Gemma Thomas

The 2m x 2m exhibition cube frames display backlit fine art giclée prints onto transparency film mounted to 5mm acrylic. Resulting in an arresting image that brings the artworks to life at any time of day.
